Kinnelon’s Family Line leads Colts
Kinnelon 7 vs. Morris Hills 2
Kinnelon Ice Hockey improved to 2-0 on this young season with a 7-2 victory over Morris Hills. This was Kinnelon’s second victory in Halverson action (also beat WMC 4-1) in as many tries.
Kinnelon teammates Mike Crampton (2 G / 2 A), Pete Crampton (2 G) and Tom Mongelli(1 G, 2 A) were involved in six of seven of the Kinnelon goals. The brothers and cousin started and played the game entire game as a line for the Colts.
Sophomore forward Ryan Higgins connected at the 7 minute mark in the first period, followed 15 seconds later by Pete Crampton’s first goal.
Morris Hills responded in the second period as Josh Zukerberg picked up a loos puck in his own zone and went coast to coast to cut the lead in half for the Scarlet Knight (0-2; 1st loss 5-1 to Park Regional). Morris Hills was hit hard by graduation after the team finished 11-14 during the ‘05-‘06 season.
Mike and Pete Crampton combined for 3 of the next 4 goals for the Colts. Morris Hills Goalie Ilys Shuf had his hands full as he was peppered non-stop from the potent Colts offensive attack. Shuf faced 39 shots in the first two periods, stopping 34. Morris Hills was also 0-2 on the power play and did not take a penalty the entire game.
Kinnelon controlled the puck for the majority of the game and out shot the Scarlet Knight 45 to 14 overall. The Colts will play Pascack Valley in a non-league game on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Skylands Arena. Morris Hills will face West Morris Central on Saturday (8:15 at Mennen) as each team vies for their first win of the season.

Coach Carchietta on Kinnelon’s impressive win: It was another nice win for the Colts. Starting the season up a division from last year. Now they can go play Saturday and feel some things out without the pressure of league results on the line.
